New Socio-Economic Phenomena in Western Europe and Hetmanshchyna in the Second Half of the Seventeenth Century: Historical and Comparative AnalysisSection: Historical Articles Abstract: The purpose of the article is to analyze and compare new trends of the socio-economic life in Western Europe and Hetmanshchyna in the second half of the seventeenth century. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism and determinism. The authors used both general scientific (analysis, synthesis, analogy, abstraction, generalization), and specially-historical (critical analysis of sources, comparability, problem-chronological) methods. The scientific novelty. The article first attempts to make a comparative analysis of social and economic processes in Western Europe and Hetmanshchyna. These issues have not yet been the subject of a special study and in Ukrainian and foreign literature can be found only a single analogy between the socio-economic situations of these regions in the second half of the eighteenth century. During the study, the authors analyzed a wide range of diverse literature, including the works of well-known specialists. Conclusions. In the middle of the seventeenth century the social and political life of most of the powerful European states, including Ukraine, was characterized by a number of common features, such as social protests, migration, the crisis of the old political elites and their substitution by the new ones, destruction of the national economy, armed conflicts. The authors conclude that in the socio-economic development of the countries of Western Europe and Hetmanshchyna there are certain common tendencies, in particular, in trade, manufactory production, the origins of the formation of bourgeois relations and the formation of the financial system of banks. However, the socio-political situation of Hetmanshchyna during the studied period was very unstable; because of it, a number of progressive tendencies of socio-economic life appeared in the region with some delays and had smaller scope than in Western Europe. Keywords: socio-economic life, trade, manufactory, Western Europe, Hetmanshchyna.
